Elephant Sighting in Tanzania and World-class Safari Experience

Elephants are elegant and graceful creatures. Tanzania is the best country to witness their grandeur and world-class elephant safari experience. 

There are the three national parks that stand out for their remarkable elephant populations – the Serengeti National Park, the Tarangire National Park and the Ruaha National Park. Every park is different, yet they all create a majestic picture of African wilderness.

Serengeti National Park

Undeniably, Serengeti is the most famous on the list of Tanzania’s national parks. It is actually a large area of plain savannah country that seems to go on for miles and miles. 

The great Serengeti is indeed the theater of the great migration, a thrilling show usually featuring millions of wildebeests and gazelles moving across the land in search of fresh pastures. However for elephant lover, the park offers equal enchantment.

Also in the plains of Serengeti, the gentle giants of the wild – the elephants roam around majestically through golden grassland with their massive silhouettes framed with Acacia trees in the background. 

The grey colored gentle giants usually are part of harems with females leading the group, while juveniles, always within close proximity to their mothers. 

When walking through the park, you may see a lot of them coming to drink water or their trunks busy sucking water. 

To imagine an elephant bull wiping itself with red dust while the sun is setting in the background is something that would remain in your memory for the rest of your life.

Tarangire National Park

This park has one of the most impressive populations of elephants in East Africa. The park derived its name from Tarangire River which provides water source for wildlife especially during dry season. 

Landscape feature dominant in the Tarangire is the ancient baobab trees dating more than thousand years. 

Tarangire has the most immense concentration of elephants that can be categorically said to be the main attraction of the park. Here one can see large herds of up to 300 elephants on the move across the park. 

Such gatherings are a sign of a healthy ecosystem and good conservation efforts. Observing these wise beings touching each other affectionately with their trunks, feeding each other or embracing a disturbed calf is a good behavior lesson.

Tarangire National Park also has wildlife like has lions, giraffes and an assortment of bird species. This park has large area of dense vegetation and expansive open spaces, providing a picturesque setting for a thrilling safari adventure. 

Ruaha National Park

Ruaha National Park is quieter and provides intimate encounter with the wild. This isolated park is the largest in Tanzania and consists of an extensive area of rocky hills, huge plains, and the Great Ruaha River. 

Ruaha park is home to more than 10,000 elephants, which you can spot on the riverbanks with ease. Apart from elephants, Ruaha is popular for sighting large lions, leopards and Asiatic wild dogs, which is on the brink of extinction. 

Bird lovers will also not be disappointed with a bird list compiling over 570 species to be seen in the park.
